Did you know that you can transfer data in your personal finance software to your tax prep program? Both TurboTax and TaxCut offer data import options, which can ease your data entry efforts.
TurboTax allows you to import your Quicken data easily. Which actually makes sense, since Intuit produces both of these software programs. But, as Shelley Elmblad points out in her article, TurboTax won't automatically import any capital gains transactions, as that requires a separate process. TaxCut likewise enables you to import data from Quicken or Microsoft Money. You might even be able to import your Quicken data into other tax programs using the tax schedule report. Also, many finance programs can generate a tax exchange format file that you can then use to import into your chosen tax program.
