Taxing Matters

By William Perez, About.com Guide to Taxes

There's three official tax forms for reporting your income and deductions to the IRS: 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ. The differences between the forms is what type of income can be reported and what types of deductions or credits you can take.

The general advice is to pick the shortest form possible for your particular tax situation. However, you might want to take a look at the slightly longer Form 1040A, as this form allows you to take a wide variety of tax deductions and tax credits not found on the shorter 1040EZ, and so using that form could help you boost your tax refund without needing to go through the hassle of using the longer 1040 form.
